Mississippi Association of Staff Council
Organizations (MASCO)
Mississippi Association of Staff Council
Organizations (MASCO) was formed in 1989 to provide leadership
and representation for the nearly 15,000 staff members
employed at the eight institutions of higher learning in
Mississippi.
MASCO is not a union, but rather a board of
directors comprised of each university’s staff council
president or chair. The board’s chairperson serves a term of
one year and is selected by alphabetical rotation.
The primary functions of MASCO are to
promote interaction between staffs at all state institutions
of higher learning in Mississippi and to enhance communication
between the staff and the Council of University Presidents
about issues of mutual concern.
MASCO functions as a channel of
communication between the various university staff councils,
their recognized counterparts, and university faculty
senate/councils. MASCO is also responsible for considering
issues of mutual concern and making recommendations to the
Council of Presidents when appropriate.
